What you should know about our library:

The Thomas County Public Library System (TCPLS) is headquartered in Thomasville. In addition to the main library in Thomasville, it operates five service libraries in Boston, Coolidge, Meigs, Ochlocknee, and Pavo.

TCPLS is an entity under the Thomas County Board of Commissioners. Its budget in 2018 was just over $1 million. About 80% of the library’s budget is generated by 1/12 of the county’s 1¢ sales tax. Remaining funds come from the State of Georgia, the federal government, grants, donations, fines and photocopies.

TCPLS is “open” 24/7 on the Internet. Legal forms, downloadable books, Tumble Books, job search information, and more are available at tcpls.org.

As part of the Georgia PINES library network, TCPLS offers patrons access to more than 2 million items. TCPLS itself has more than 123,000 books, DVDs, videos, audio books, CDs, magazines, and newspapers in its collection.

TCPLS houses a collection of genealogy and local history resources that focus on local family and Thomas County histories. TCPLS is also a Family Search Affiliate Library, which provides access to a collection of over 700,000 microfiche genealogical records available free at FamilySearch.com and viewable here in the library.

In fiscal 2018, TCPLS:

  • Circulated 172,480 materials

  • Had 36,487 computer/electronic material users

  • Answered 13,453 reference questions

  • Entertained 5,162 children with special programs
