Getting a Library Card

Library cards are free to all Georgia state residents, regardless of age.

Get a Library Card at Your Library
Visit your local library, fill out an application, and show your ID.

You can get your free library card by stopping by your local library in any city within Thomas County. You will need a valid ID listing your current address.
Or, fill out the application form ahead of time and bring it with you.

Getting a Card
Eligibility

Library cards are free to all residents of Georgia, including persons who attend school, own property or are employed in Georgia. Property owners who do not reside in Georgia may be required to show proof of ownership. Persons employed in Georgia or attending school in Georgia may be required to show proof of employment or enrollment.

Patrons of both PINES and non-participating Georgia public libraries may receive a library card. PINES library cards are valid for two (2) years. If you are already a PINES cardholder, you may use your card at any Thomas County Public Library location. Out-of-state cards are available to persons living outside Georgia who do not meet the above criteria for a $25 annual fee, payable at the time the card is issued.

There is no minimum age for a child to receive a PINES card. A parent or legal guardian may register a child. To register a child, parent/guardian must show proper ID and sign the application form for children under age 18.

Identification

When applying for a library card, you must present an ID with your current local address.

Acceptable ID for a library card:

  • photo ID showing current local address, OR
  • photo ID and one item from approved list (see below) showing current, local address (if photo ID does not have correct address), OR
  • TWO (2) items from this approved list showing a current, local address
- a valid driver's license
- a valid voter registration card
- valid matricula consular
- checks with pre-printed addresses
- a utility bill, tax receipt or other piece of mail that shows the user's name and present address

Original documents are required, photocopies are not acceptable.

Renew Your Library Card

Library cards are valid for two (2) years.

  • Renew your library card in person at the library and present identification that includes your current address.
  • You can see your expiration date on the Account Summary tab when you login to your PINES account. You will receive an email reminder notification 30 days in advance of the expiration date.
  • You can renew your account at any time. You do not need to apply for a new library card.
  • There is no cost to renew but patrons will need to resolve any fines or fees that are on the account.
  • Patrons must renew expired cards in order to borrow materials and access online resources.
